Description
Gardenia fruit is a traditional Chinese medicine with effects such as clearing heat and purging fire, promoting diuresis and relieving jaundice, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. It contains active ingredients such as geniposide, chlorogenic acid, and polysaccharides, and has high nutritional value.
I. Effects and Functions of Gardenia Fruit
1. Assists in relieving red and swollen eyes: Gardenia fruit is cold in nature and contains iridoids, which can alleviate red and swollen eyes caused by liver fire to a certain extent. It is often used in combination with chrysanthemum and prunella vulgaris to improve eye discomfort by clearing the liver and improving vision.
2. Improves damp-heat jaundice: Its diuretic effect helps promote bile secretion, which has a certain auxiliary conditioning effect on damp-heat jaundice. Clinically, it is often combined with artemisia capillaris and rhubarb to help improve symptoms such as yellowing of the skin and scanty dark urine caused by damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder.
3. Regulating mild bleeding due to blood heat. Components such as genipin in gardenia fruit can cool the blood and stop bleeding, providing some relief for mild bleeding problems such as nosebleeds and hematochezia caused by excessive blood heat. It is often used in combination with other herbs such as arborvitae leaves and Imperata cylindrica root.
