*Niuxi* (Achyranthes root) (牛膝)is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb classified as a blood-activating and stasis-dispelling agent. It functions to promote blood circulation, regulate menstrual irregularities, and nourish the liver and kidneys. It is commonly used to alleviate joint pain, weakness and soreness in the lower back and knees, as well as the swelling and pain resulting from traumatic injuries. Modern research has also revealed its efficacy in ameliorating issues such as difficulty in urination. Primarily cultivated in regions such as Henan, Sichuan, and Guizhou, the *Huai Niuxi* variety—originating from Jiaozuo, Henan—is particularly highly regarded for its firm texture and high concentration of active constituents.
